About Our Company
Silky Cosmetics was born not long after founder, Shari Eddington, decided to stop chemically straightening her naturally curly hair. For years she tried to repair damage done from using relaxers. After deciding to wear her hair in its natural form, she began to pay closer attention to what she put in and on her entire body.
Like many people, Shari dove head first into the natural revolution upon learning about all the harsh ingredients that were in mainstream cosmetics. However, she quickly became overwhelmed and exhausted from examining the labels of every product she bought. Shari also realized that a lot of the products that said “100% natural” or “organic” on their labels and websites weren’t all they claimed to be. As Shari began to buy more natural products for her and family, she noticed that there was a void in the personal care industry. On one end of the spectrum you had your mainstream cosmetics with lots of chemicals, but with great scents and colors. On the other end you had natural products with better ingredients, but most had boring scents and weren’t as much fun as the mainstream products. That’s when the idea came to create a line of cosmetics that filled the void that exists in the beauty industry by bridging the gap between natural and mainstream personal care products.
Shari Eddington’s desire to create products that catered to the “in betweens” bloomed into Silky Cosmetics. The “in betweens” are the people that want a healthier lifestyle and safer ingredients, but also enjoy fun products with great fragrances. Our products are a breath of fresh air to those who want more variety and are tired of obsessing over details on ingredient labels. Whether you are someone that doesn’t mind using products with synthetic chemicals or one that would rather have natural ingredients, our products are appealing to all consumers. We offer products that actually work, not to mention, they smell great, look great and contain healthy and beneficial ingredients. We produce naturally focused products.
What does it mean to be “naturally focused”? Silky Cosmetics does not claim to be “100% natural” or “100% organic”, Naturally-focused means that our goal is to use as many natural ingredients as possible to produce quality products that actually do what they say that they are going to do. Even when we do use safe synthetic products, we try to use those that come from natural sources. That’s why all of our products are free of parabens, sodium laurel sulfate, petroleum, mineral oil and alcohols. We feel that there are synthetics that are safe to use when necessary. Although we don’t use many synthetics in our products, we are continuously researching to find ways to further minimize the use of synthetic chemicals without compromising the quality of our products.
All of our products are 100% vegetarian and most are products are also 100% vegan. Here at Silky we are huge animal lovers so we never, ever, ever test on animals. We use quality natural ingredients and every product is made with love and care. If you like scent, but are sensitive to fragrance oil, we have products scented with natural base fragrance oils. These oils are natural based and contain the smallest amount of synthetic ingredients necessary. And if you love products with delicious and unique scents we also have products with great, Phthalate Free, fragrances. However, bath and body products should not only look and smell good they should actually work and serve a purpose; therefore, we don’t sell anything that we wouldn’t use ourselves or give to our families.
